Hi guys/gals.

My name is Kelley I am a local dude from Kenosha. I know a few people on here but not sure if they use the same names as other boards aken, kornholio, pork of course.

I am super new to bikes and have spent lots of time on a gixxer board learninga bout those as I am looking for one right now with a lead on a few nice ones locally. This will be my first bike and I know what some will say about starter bikes so dont go there as I have read those posts and will be taking the MSF course and have those same buddies to help me out.

I am 33 and a proud dad so lots of reasons to take it safe. I might even know more people than I realize as the 4 of us have been on so many forums and in the car scene locally for so dang long now.

I'll be hitting up the meet this Thursday in brookfield too so I'll meet some peeps there too.

pfffft...no way. only things i have needed on my yamaha are fork seals(which is a regular thing), chain/sprockets(because i wore the old ones out...and didnt really take care of them), oil changes(again, normal), and i THOUGHT the clutch was going out, but i was stupid and it was fine. it was the tire slipping when i was trying to clutch up wheelies. I will be putting a new cam chain tensioner(do those words ring a bell? the notorious little bugger that always goes out in hondas) since im at about 23k miles. thats it mechanically. granted, i had to replace the stator cover since the previous owner wrecked it, but other than that, its fine.

and as far as needing to be a mechanic, no way. im about an idiot when it comes to tools, but i was able to do all the work myself other than the fork seals(because i was afraid), but i can do them now.

either way, get what you want. the bikes are so close in performance, you wont really notice a difference on the street(except the older gixxers seem fat)

I agree that the old Gixxers seem fat but I also think that makes them the best bikes for normal everyday use. Seeing that I feel they are the most comfortable.

i shall say it again, to each his own. rock whatever you like the most. i personally think the yamahas are the most comfy, and i like the looks of them too. now as far as dirtbikes, i could really care less since they are all basically the exact same.

There will be a lot of opinions so here's mine, buy a Kawi! lol

If you're fond of Suzuki how about an SV1K. More comfortable and you can pick one of those up for not much $$.
